Skye Canyon, a 1,700-acre master-planned community in Northwest Las Vegas that is the base camp for the great outdoors, launches its “Fit Lives Here” event series on Saturday, May 14, 2016 with the inaugural Skye Canyon 8K Trail Mix and 5K Road Race. Also included is a 1-mile family fun run or walk. Races start at 8 a.m. at Skye Canyon Park and are open to runners and walkers of all levels. Online registration is open now at www.DesertSkyAdventures.com.
Registration fees range from $25 to $50 and participants are encouraged to register early to take advantage of discounted pricing (pricing chart is below). Entry fees include a T-shirt and goodie bag. Race packet pick up will be held at REI in Boca Park on Thursday, May 12 from 5–8 p.m. and on-site the morning of the race.
The 5K and 1-mile races will travel through Skye Canyon’s neighborhoods. The 8K run starts on the road and then ventures off onto nearby trails. The race is produced by Desert Sky Adventures and a course map is available at www.DesertSkyAdventures.com.
A portion of the event’s proceeds will benefit the Outside Las Vegas Foundation, a non-profit organization whose mission is to connect people to Southern Nevada’s special outdoor places. The foundation creates programming to support volunteerism, environmental education, and community outreach.
Fit Lives Here is a series of community events hosted at Skye Canyon. In the coming months, plans for the program include activities such as outdoor yoga, fitness classes and Q&A’s and slideshows with prominent outdoor athletes that are free and open to the public. Events will be posted on www.skyecanyon.com and on the community’s Facebook page.
